Florida Republican Congressman Byron Donalds joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to explain why he supports completely getting rid of Obamacare in an effort to make healthcare in the U.S. more affordable for everybody.
“When they designed Obamacare, you had Democrats who were on the record saying, this is the pathway to universal healthcare. The reason why they designed a system that would trap Americans, premiums would rise. It will become more expensive, it’s so they could come back and bring in more subsidies. And when the subsidies didn’t work, the next step would be, this isn’t working. These health insurance companies are getting rich. That’s not fair. We need a government run healthcare policy. That was the original design. So it’s actually twofold. You have democrats that don’t want to make it seem as if Obama’s signature achievement was a fraud, which by the way it is, but then number two they want universal healthcare. They’ve always wanted universal personal healthcare Obamacare is the conduit to do that. One of the reasons why they’re frustrated now and people if you remember fifteen years ago what the democrats wanted to put into Obamacare was called the public option The public option would have simulated a government-run health insurance policy that would have been artificially cheaper than the ones you buy on the exchanges, and so what would people do? They would pick the cheapest plan, and then that would grow while the insurance company plans would get more expensive, and you’d have a Bernie Sanders or an AOC or whoever say, you see, people want government- run health care, it’s time to deliver. The reason they didn’t get the public option is because Scott Brown won a Senate seat in Massachusetts that year and it stopped them from having the 60th vote they needed to create a public option. So the Democrats are stuck, they’re one foot in, one foot out. They just want to subsidize it, but what they really always wanted was Medicaid for all. That is the Bernie Sanders healthcare plan, and it will suck for the American people. It will be terrible health insurance.”
